Turret Winder with Zero Speed Transfer

This turret winder and its accompanying accumulator is designed to follow a provided line speed. During the transfer, the excess web is buffered in the accumulator, as the transfer section of the turret automatically cuts the web at the fixed length, and transfers the web onto the empty core. Once the transfer is complete, the winder overspeeds enough to pull the excess web from the accumulator prior to the next transfer. The machine uses a magnetic particle clutch in conjuction with load cells to trim winder speed to maintain a tapered tension from core to full roll. Parker SSD drives, An Allen Bradley PLC and a C-More HMI were used in this implementation.
